Walking Through A Mirror Maze

If you are anything like me, having some sort of visual representation can make the difference of whether or not I fully understand something. That is what I am going to share with you now. We are just about 2 weeks into the new year and with so many people setting resolutions and/or very specific goals for themselves, I felt this would be an important topic to discuss.

When we set out to accomplish new goals for the new year, or any time of the year for that matter, I think it safe to say that all of us, or at least most of us, will at some point start to feel gravity setting in. We feel the pull to return to our old patterns, behaviors, and ways of thinking. There is a lot that is wrapped up in understanding why this happens, but today I want to talk about the people that influence us; for better or for worse.

The way we view ourselves affects every part of our life. Unfortunately, the way other people view who we are directly influences the way we view ourselves. If we acknowledge, entertain, and accept the way other people view who we are, especially in this social climate, it would be like trying to walk through a mirror maze on a daily basis. I don't know about you, but that seems exhausting to have to navigate.... and the thing is, we do it all the time. It's no wonder we are tired and lost. Just imagine that you are actually walking through a literal mirror maze and that every reflection you see represents a different view point that someone has of you. How do you know what's true? How do you know which reflection IS the REAL you?

If you haven't set a goal for yourself, or even if you have, I would encourage you to begin the journey through the maze. You can do this on your own, with a therapist, or maybe with someone who you feel safe with and feel really "gets" you. Regardless of how you choose to find your way out of the maze, know that at the end there will be a single mirror standing alone. That mirror will show you who your authentic self is...... your future, true, authentic self is waiting to greet you. You just have to take the first step.
